One of the things I love the most in Sydney is to see so many people with a mask and snorkel at the beach. To know that so many people enjoy being in the water, discovering the amazing critters Sydney has to show. And to see how so many divers and snorkelers care about the ocean and engage with research and conservation projects.

Where have Port Jackson sharks been sighted in Sydney Harbour?
Last season we had 13 entries in our form! This was amazing considering we started the initiative very late in the season, and most PJs were leaving Sydney harbour on their annual migration.
In addition, we had two sightings in 2016 - some sharks seem to stick around.
Most sharks were reported at the Cabbage Tree Bay (Shelly Beach, Fairy Bower), around Bare Island and Kurnell and at Kay-Ye-My Point, in Fairlight.

Why this is important to us
We are studying the migration routes of Port Jackson sharks in NSW using acoustic tags. We are interested in identifying PJ aggregation sites in Sydney Harbour to choose our tagging locations, and ultimately see where our Sydney PJs go once they leave the harbour.
